explorer rearend gear ratio change
I have an 02 edge 4.0 I plan on dropping a 5.0 (99 exp) I have the complete (rolled ) exp. The exp r/e is an 3.73 L/S. What all would I have to do to change it to 4.10 l/s. Is it anything the same as a 9" where you just change the pod? The exp. r/e is not in the truck yet.

If you know how to setup gears, all you need is the ring and pinion and asscociated tools of the trade. The explorer 8.8 is not a drop out 3rd member like the 9".
If you don,t I suggest you take it to a shop or spend alot of time researching and reading about how to do it. If you have any kind of mechanical inclination, and enough patience, gear setup isn't all that hard (but you have to have all the right tools to do so).

3.73 versus 4.10
. Any body got any guess what kinda rpm I would be running at say 70 mph with the 3.73 versus 4.10? I just drive the truck locally so I'm just looking for fun more than gas mileage, (The 4.0 5-spd in it now only gets 12-14 mpg) Thanks for the info

I have a regular 8.8-3.55 one-leg. Any body got any guess what kinda rpm I would be running at say 70 mph with the 3.73 versus 4.10?
