Well, this one made it almost 70k, now it must be puking fluid on teh clutch whihc is now slipping.....so the preventive strike must be made, before it strands me again.

So, I need to know if anyone has found a slave that last more than 50-70k.
Also need recomendations on a good clutch, though I have yet to wear one out beofre the slave goes!
Anyone who has done it, what else should I gather before tackling this?

 

I still have the original clutch and slave on my 2003 with 102k on it . The last time I changed the oil I noticed oil had dripped out around the bell housing . But it didn't look that fresh . Then I remembered when I changed the filter the time before it slipped out of my hand a little and dumped oil over the starter .
If the clutch is disengaging properly but slipping , could a rear main seal leaking cause it ?

 

Luk clutches are great thats what I recommend I just did mine 5k ago and it is a huge pain, plan an afternoon for sure

 

On my 2000, I changed the slave cylinder at like 40k miles and ran the original clutch till I traded it in last year @ 92,000 miles. I dont believe there is an aftermarket slave cylinder that isnt made out of plastic (ugh). Good luck and I hope you find the issue!

 

the slave is terrible on our trucks it seems like they last 40 to 60k and that is it end of show

 

In my truck I abolished slave-ry and drive an automatic...

I bought mine at advance, IDK how long it will last but who knows?

 

I hear ya !
But most of my driving is over the road on interstate , only about 10-15 % city .So I don't have the stop-and-go light to light crap very much .
I had a '94 ranger that made it to 200k on the original clutch and slave , so I know what it feels like when it starts to go .
My biggest worry right now is the cam position sync.I haven't checked it for play but no noise yet.

 

What ticked me off was over an hour to get the tranny out for 30 seconds of work... lol

 

Is it possible that when the cluch / slave is changed out that by not also changing the pressure plate , the fingers could be worn/ bent enough that the slave over extends too far causing it to fail sooner ?

 

Seems logical enough. Can one buy just the pressure plate?

 

For sure you can get it from Ford or just call your local parts store they will order it in for you, shouldnt be over 100 bucks if i recal but dont quote me
