Found A 8.8!!!!!!

ok i found me a 8.8 on ebay the guy said he will hold it for me because i told him i needed to ask what all i needed before i went and bought it

ok well this is what im buying

The item you are buying is a new take out 8.8 housing and 31 splline axles for a Ford Ranger. Fits 1999 to 2007 Ford Ranger pickups. Axles are 31 spline large bearing journal. The housing has same bolt pattr on ends for brakes as Ford Explorers. The axles have a 4 ½” 5 lug bolt circle Housing measures 53 ¼” wide also known as the W.M.S. (wheel mounting surface). Dimension axle to axle is about 58 1/8” wide

I beleive your brakes will work, may want to check with someone like John first though...not sure if there is a different backing plate.

You will need outer bearings and seals, MAKE sure you get ones for an Explorer or F150 8.8. They are the larger ones.

As for U bolts, look up a spring and axle shop nearby and they can custom make some for about 5 bucks each. Measure the diameter of the tube, then the height you need by adding that to the leaf pack mount, plus the thickness of the pack....then a little more for good luck. Some shops already know the diameter of tubes, my local shop knew it off the top of his head!

Ok...you need these parts...that axle housing (if from a FX4/Level II whatever Ranger with 31 splines is the best and easiest to install, you lucked out!) is your best bet, so if you feel work is too hard for htis, pass it onto someone else.....I'm sure someone on here would take it.

1. outer bearings....any parts store
2 Outer seals.....any parts store
3. New U bolts....go look up spring and axle in the yellow pages, call and ask.
3 Check to see if the brakes fit, if not backing plate...ask people on here. If you need the plate, JY is best, but any parts store can get them.
4 Do you have a carrier? If not, you need one. Check Ebay. TONS of 8.8 31 spline carriers on there. Example... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWD1V
OR, use this as a chance to put ANY locker you want, just has to be 8.8 with 31 splines.....get creative!

ALL of these parts will come from an Explorer, just tell the parts counter 1996 Explorer. Choose whatever options you would want, it does not matter for axle parts.
Do you want someone to come and do the install too?

How much you paying? Over a 100? I would get one from a JY I saw two complete ones with everything, Look for a UPULL and SAVE JY's. I alreday have one and made my mistake.

Is this a Ranger housing, or Ex housing? If it is a Ranger housing with shafts, go for it. Hrad to find. If it is an Ex housing for $200, no, much easier to find with all parts.

Judging from the pic, it is from a Ranger b/c of the spring mounts on the top of the axle. Only question is are the axle shafts 31 spline? I
t's hard enough to find a good 31 spline Ranger housing, so like I said, if you don't want it, buy it then sell it!

Those axle shafts could just be from an explorer 8.8 which is actually wider than a ranger 8.8 making them too long to go in that housing. They either have to be from an fx4 II ranger or custom to fit a ranger housing.

ya they came in like yesterday morning i was just on a trip

but besides the fact ya the splines are for a ford ranger ill ask the guy on ebay a little more before i have it shipped away =) away as in my front door steps

then ill just take it the gears and about 500$ to my buddy jessie and clutch products and have it loaded with a good locker and all the necessaries and have it mounted up

OO it is a ranger housing because i mean ive never seen a explorer with shock mounts in those positions
