changing the gear ratio and prices.
I was at the ford dealership yesterday because I’m an idiot and lost one of my PATS keys. As they were programming the new key I was talking to my service rep about changing to 4.88s and so on. I said I wasn’t sure where I was going to have it done or how much it would cost and he mentioned "oh we can do it here." I thought to myself why did I bring it up, I don’t want them to do it; I barely trust them to drive my truck into the service center. lol
Anyways he looks up the price of labor and estimated time. He told me around 8 hours and $600 for the front and about 6 hours and $500 for the rear. I just laughed at him.
he then told me the price for the parts front and rear. Both were over 500.
I figured the labor price wasn’t too bad, but I’m kind of curious what some of you guys have paid. I have a couple friends that have done it so I’m prolly just going to let them do it, I don’t know that I trust myself to do it.

I just had my rear done and labor was $300. I did provide my own gearlube because I wanted to use the Amsoil gearlube and they didn't have it. The parts prices that they gave you are ridiculous. I did a little looking around and found this place http://www.precisiongear.com/ The front gears are $159.95, the rears are $199.95, rear compleat install kit $87.95, front compleat install kit $82.95 and the modified cross-shaft that you will need to make the rear work is $27.95. That gives you a total of $558.75 for everything you need minus gearlube and installation. I know the rear install should be $300, the front is $400(they are local, so I just called). I noticed that you are in Indiana, if you cannot find a decent price on installation, the place that did mine is in Detroit, if the price is that far off, the trip would be well worth it. The place that did mine was http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/product.phtml?p=495

installing the gears with a locker is not different than changing the gears with whatever carrier you may have. You are still changing the ring gear. If someone will do it for $200 and they are repitable, you have found a very good price. $300 was the cheapest I could find after many, many calls to different shops.
