locking back diff.

I have a 4x4 ranger and was thinking a locking diff would be better for me in the snow then an open one?.

would you be getting it just for the snow? if yes id say just stick with the open or swap a l/s rear in. I never had any problems with my open rear.

yeah I'l be getting it for the snow, mud and graval.ALso I have been looking at the detroit tru track I dont know really what I would need? but it would be nice to have both wheels spin at the same time not just one with an open diff. 4.10, 8.8.

Lockers aren't that great in the snow. They can make the back end spin around pretty easily.
Personally I wouldn't want a locker if I did a lot of snow driving, but some people claim they are more predictable.

BTW the trutrac is a limited slip, not a locker.

After reading about a locking diff. or an L/s I think the L/S would be my best bet as far as the brand I'm looking at the detroit tru track.

That's me, I love them!

But I wouldn't recommend them to everyone. I don't like my wife driving my truck in the snow, although when the roads are really covered a good limited slip will kick the back end around all the same.

I agree, a gear driven limited slip is probably the best all around for most people.
