Changing the T-case ATF

So how do you change T-case ATF? i read an article on here that said "drain and refill" well... glory be, but where is the drain plug? do i have to take the fill plug out, pick up the truck and shake it out?

It's behind the counterweight, lol. It's well hidden. Remove the 4 bolts that hold on that big cylindrical weight under the shift motor and it's behind there.

You can't miss that huge black iron weight that's hanging on the rear of the case -- just make sure as you take the last bolt out that it misses YOU, lol. It's pretty heavy.

Damn I'm good.....

It uses a 3/8" rachet to take the plugs out. I used a 3/8 rachet with a 3" extension. Mines painted pink. Be prepared to see some ugly **** brown stuff to drain out of it. I believe the book calls for ATF on our tcases. I run Royal Purple Synthetic in my crankcase, trans, tcase, rear end, powersteering, etc. Hope it helps.

Shane

What you need to take off:

BAM! The shiny one at the bottom is a drain....the pink painted one is the fill.

Thanks Shane!

I assume the fill plug is in the same spot on the manual (2002 FX4).

I have a slow leak in the front output seal. It is a 6.5hr job to fix so I'm waiting for a buddy to do it for me.

Is there an easy way to check the level of fluid or should I just pour more in until it comes back out?

Thanks.

There's no dipstick obviously; but you can stick the tip of your finger down in the fill hole and see where it gets "wet" with fluid. If it's low, top it off.

i vote you pick the truck up and shake it, that would be entertaining and interesting to watch.
