Conversion using Factory 4wd components is pretty much out of the question of you have a coil spring 2wd.
SAS is possible though
All comes down to what you want to do and what you're capable of.

I did a 4wd swap on my explorer sport trac, but it was already a t-bar setup and easier, maybe spent 2500-3500 in parts, did most the labor myself and picked parts up for cheap over a spread of 2 years.
In your case, you should have coil springs, so without doing a full frame swap, if would be "easier" to do a solid axle, but even then, you will need to do welding on the frame and nothing is a "easy bolt in".
Your Truck is only valved to what you think it is. If its worth for you to keep, then keep it. If you are still paying on it, then sell it for a 4wd.
When I went to sell my explorer, I lost money on the "non factory 4wd" (VIN showed 2wd), but it was a fast sell and cash talked.
