Broken CV Shaft

Broken CV Shaft

I tried searching, but could find no tips on replacing a broken cv shaft. Could someone offer some pointers? Or is there a how to somewhere on here? Thanks!

Here sorry the pics do not carry over but its something:




Removal

Raise and support the vehicle; for additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
Remove the wheel and tire assembly; for additional information, refer to Section 204-04.
Remove the hub lock assembly from the hub and bearing assembly; for additional information, refer to Section 204-01B.
Using a pair of snap ring pliers, remove the plastic stub shaft retainer. For additional information, refer to Section 204-01B.

Position the front disc brake caliper aside.
Remove the two front disc brake caliper bolts.
Lift the front disc brake caliper off the front disc brake caliper anchor plate and position aside.

Support the front suspension lower arm.
Remove the upper ball joint to front wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

Remove the outboard front wheel driveshaft and joint (3B436) from the wheel hub.
Rotate the front wheel knuckle (3K186).
Compress the outboard front wheel driveshaft and joint.
Remove the outboard front wheel driveshaft and joint from the hub.

Using the CV Joint Puller and Impact Slide Hammer, separate the front wheel halfshaft from the front axle housing.

Remove the front wheel driveshaft and joint from the front axle housing.

Installation

CAUTION: Do not reuse the plastic stub shaft retainer. A new retainer must be installed each time the inboard CV joint stub shaft housing is installed into the differential.

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order. For retainer installation, refer to Section 204-01B.

^^that about covers it. Here's a quick pic to show what the front end should look like while you're takin' it apart, but you'll have the front differential still hangin' in there lol.......

for $20 it doesn't...
i reused mine like 6 times

So you remove it from the diff before you remove it from the hub?

Thats straight off Ford Dealer Service site I did not write it up, take it up with ford if you have issues with it

I want to say, Driver side, pull it out of the knuckle first, then when your installing it, put it into the diff first..

Passenger side, make sure you put the the outer end through the knuckle first or your gonna have a hell of a time getting it into the diff.

thats what worked for me atleast

its just a judgement call, at the rate i broke CV shafts i couldn't see a reason to buy a new one.. it wasn't at you, it seemed like an official write up.
