Transfercase balancer

Do we need it on these 1354's? I changed the fluid in the truck and upon tightening down those 4 bolts the head on one snaped. . i'm a little annoyed but none the less if its not truely needed then im yanking it off. Just thought i'd ask to double check.

And yes i searched and found nothing

I ran without it for probably a good 6months without any effects...no ill effects...no nothing. rock it!

OR....rock it with 3 bolts.

Supposedly it dampins drivetrain vibration. Expo's have 'em on their rear axle too...

its right in the the way when you go to change the fluid, and steel bolts in a alloy case seem prone to corrosion alot worse than a cast iron case.

If the bolt snapped, I would strongly suggest using and easy out and taking it out, they are not torqued in there too bad. I'm sure ford put it on there for a reason... I would strive to fix it. I mean it seems like an important piece since it weights so much... Vibrations in the drivetrain never are good... just use 3 bolts for now, and when you get the money or borrow a easy out device for the bolt do it and replace the bolt.
