truck went for an oil change

something i have been noticing, is it is sometimes impossible to get my truck into 1st gear (standard) from a stop, it is most noticed when sitting at a redlight, truck in neutral, foot off the clutch for a period of time, and when it happens, it goes in a slight bit, i can feel a soft click, and the shifter stops... i can push as hard as i want, and it won't go in the rest of the way... the only way to get it into gear from here is to put it back into neutral, and let the clutch out and try again, every so often, just putting it back into neutral works... it happens maybe once or twice a day to me... ford said they could not duplicate the symptoms.

in addition to that found that my front shocks, and axle seals are leaking... they can't do them today, the shocks have to be sent out? and the axle seals would take 3-4 days for new ones to come in... i'm at 72245 km, on a 100 000 km powertrain waranty, are the axle seals included in that? i'm 90% sure the shocks aren't...

just pisses me off because i bought the truck from them 3 months ago

what's wrong with my transmission, and how do i get them to fix it? i also have a dealer's waranty on my clutch... 1 year or 25000 km

Sounds like the slave is going out. My truck refused to go into 1st at times and it would be fine other times. When it got really bad my truck would jump when starting. I park in gear and just push the clutch down to start then select neutral. Not fun when you are half asleep and your truck jumps forward on you even with the parking brake on.

i doubt very much that axle seals are covered ( you could get lucky though )

my shocks were dead 2 months after i bought it?

so i just upgraded to MONROE SENSATRAC shocks

i never regreted doing that ( ride quality is awesome )

( dealership re-imbursed me the cost of new shocks )

but i was told ,, i should have installed monroe GAS MAGNUM~S ( next time )

Sensa-tracs are black, and the magnums are yellow (and usually a bit cheaper). They both ride close to the same, but I used to run Sena-tracs all the time cause they work well for their cost.

Seals and shocks *should* be covered under the warranty, speak to the service manager. If they won't, try another dealership.

Its definitely your slave going which is causing your tranny issues. Sometimes synthetic ATF can help the tranny work a little harder on the syncros to get it into gear (I did this on my '93), but its merely a temporary fix. Squeaking's common with the OEM clutched, buddy's '07 here has done it since pretty much brand new. Someone might have burnt it up a bit before you (Mike has pulling a few nasty sections when 'wheeling), but it'll do it for the rest of its life. Other cause might be an improperly installed clutch (wasn't cleaned properly, ect) from the factory, but I'd bet my money on it being glazed a bit. If they replace the slave (its definitely covered), make sure they change the clutch too since you're already in there!! Its too easy for them to leave it on the engine and ignore it, trying to save a few $$. Good luck. LR

the re-bound rate of the sensatrac`s increases as your vehicle speed increases
soften`s as you de-accelerate

the gas magnum`s provide a comfy and smooth ride what-ever speed you are traveling at

the GAS MAGNUM~S are what i should have installed

i don't think we are thinking of the same squeek, what i am thinking of sounds like a slurpee straw being pulled through the lid... and it's when i'm pressing or releasing the pedal, and can almost feel it in the pedal... i'm 99% sure this is the slave, as it's the same noise my buddy's ranger made, before he had to get his replaced, same with my dad's 96 f-150, and his stopped doing it after the slave was replaced... stopped doing it after we replaced the master too, but it started up about a month later...

service advisor said he would look into the axle seals for me, but the shocks are on the bumper to bumper, which was gone 2 years 50,000 i think it was...

Look up Ford TSB 07-24-1. It explains the "squeaky clutch" problems on the ranger. All 3 of my 04 ranger slaves have squeaked.

ya, that makes sense... but it still shouldn't happen, on a truck with 45,000 miles on it... it's still under waranty...

Can't comment on the slave/clutch.

If you're looking for new shocks, go with Bilsteins. Can't beat 'em if you're willing to pay for 'em.

My first slave went out at 40K, the second at 45K, the third is still going strong at 80K. Make sure if you get it replaced they flush out all the lines. That is what happened to my second one.
