Icon5 one manual & one auto hub?

well, it seems i had a hub strip tonight. i was wondering if its possible with out hurting anything to put on one of my old auto hubs until i get the manual replaced? my old auto hubs still worked when i had removed them, but i dont know how it would work out to have one side a auto and the other a manual. supposed to have a 2-4 snow accumulation on thursday, id sure hate to not have 4wd. i was first afraind it was something in the transfer case that went, but im pretty sure now its a hub. for now im just getting by with my 500# in the back end.

I dont see how it would work because of the vacuum. If one side is un hooked its not going to work unless you plug it i suppose it may work...

josh he has no vacume. thats only 98 plus

you will have to get new ask nuts for the manual hubs buy the whole kit and put on manual hubs. you can do one of each but if one went the other one is going to go soon. so get manual hubs and the conversion kit i will take all off 10 min to swap them.

my manual hubs have 150k on them and still work great

You will probably be fine running one manual and one auto. Lock the manual and the auto should lock when there is power to the front axle.

The manual hubs are on the truck already. One failed so he wants to swap on an auto hub for a bit. If he swapped them himself then he should have everything he needs.

yes, i have all the parts, it came with auto's amd i swapped them out about 3 years ago. over-stressed them tonight. was pulling something heavy and the rear axle was on a icy surface, the front axle was on clean pavement. guess i should be glad its not a front diff or transfercase. i looked up new milemarkers and they are $180, only come as a set. glad i kept my old parts, all i need to do is hunt down my spindle nut sockets.

hey, it's better to be 23 than -23 like it is here

i would do the swap on the 1... leave the other manual, but order the parts you broke, for both sides, so you have spares if it, or the other side goes

just because I don't know. how could you tell that you stressed them. grinding noise? clunking?

i could tell something was wrong when i had this clunk-clunk-clunk noise coming from the front end. it went away when i put it back in 2wd. both sides are now back to the stock auto's. if i had welded up a auto to make it fully locked full time it would have worked, but as it was with one manual and one auto, the manual side would turn the axle and due to the spiders in the fron differential the auto side axle would turn backwards and try to engage the auto hub going forwards. it would just make a awful ratchting sound. if you ran it with the transfer case engaged it was fine, but you cant do that all the time. i put the other old auto hub setup back on and all is well. im not a fan of the auto hub setup, but its either that or no 4wd at all for right now. i tested them and they do seem to be working for the time being. thought id let y'all know.
