It is the differential vent hose. It doesn't connect to anything. It should have a little cap on the end. No need to worry.

EDIT ^^ Dman you, beat me to it lol

You got it, its a diff breather so when the fluid gets hot it expands so it doesn't puke out the seals

I dont think I've ever noticed a rear one with a cap before, of course, I've never really paid that close of attention to it...mine never had one and still doesn't.

Not a cap aka a plug, but a 'floating' cap that allows full breathability. I've got those on my front axle and my tcase.

mine is just a hose no cap, just runs up into the suspension or some brake lines orsomething to stay up... i feel like it should be clipped to the frame or something though... oh well... maybe ill just zip tie it

should be a frame clip. or its cliped to the ABS sensor and brake line 'cluster' of wires/hoses.

This is what you guys are talking about right because there shouldn't be a cap it should connect to that piece off the axle.

We're talking about a cap on the OTHER end of that hose...up top....a cap that wont allow water in, but will still allow for breathability. If you get under your driveside fender, you'll see one of these caps attached to a clip on the front side of the shock tower. That would be your front axle breather....and it's capped.
