Gearing to a 4.10
I have a 2000 xlt with the 3.0 and 3.73's. Im doing a body lift and want to put some 33x12.50's on there but im sure that id have to gear up. I called around to our local salvage yards and they wanted 700 for a 8.8 with 4.10's and our local you pull it yards are pretty limited to first gen explorers and they have a different leaf system dont they?? My thought was to re gear my 7.5 to 4.10 and then find some used matching gears for the front. What do you guys think??

I paid 200 bucks for my 8.8 with 4.10s and l/s. It was out of a 2001 4x4 4.0 ranger that head bunted a garbage truck and my pick and pull yard. Regearing is not cheap but if they want 700 bucks for a rear end then it looks like a really good idea then. Most shops around here are $200 for the rear and a little bit more for the front plus the cost of the gears and new gear oil.

yea this is kind of my daily driver when its to cold or raining and i cant ride the bike. I could do the re gearing myself so its really just the cost of the gears. Id love to be able to find a 8.8ls and the re gear it to 4.56 but I cant find any worth it. Now will I be able to take the 4.10 front gears out of a explorer and put them in my front axle? That would sure be alot cheaper than going with all new ones.

IMO......it's more beneficial to swap in a junkyard axle w/ 4.10's. And you might even be upgrading to an 8.8 if you have a 7.5 right now. Might even be getting limited slip too.
I got a rear 8.8ls w/ 4.10's w/ 50k on the clock for $150. And a front d35 w/ 4.10's for $100 w/ 30k on the clock.
Look at it this way.....$400-500 for new to you axles that you can do yourself VS. $1000 for re-gear that most can't do themselves.
