New truck w/ tranny problem please help

Hey everyone, first post, and I'm already bugging you. My grandpa passed away a few weeks ago and left me his 2000 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6 and automatic tranny. The truck has a few problems, most importantly a transmission issue (I assume its tranny related... this is actually my first vehicle) I feel like I owe it to my grandfather to fix the truck up and make the most out of it. To the issue... I'm getting an error code P0741 and the overdrive light flashes on and off. The truck shifts from first into second fine but in the middle of 2nd gear it jerks real hard, after the jerk (usually at around 35 or 40 MPH) everything is fine from there on. Being this is my first vehicle I don't know what to expect but it seems like it revs to high before it shifts, and when it does shift it doesn't feel like it engages real solidly. its kinda weak feeling. I apologize for this monster post. I want you to have all the info. Thanks in advance guys. Looking forward to turning this truck into something grandpa would be proud of.

Welcome to the forum and sorry for your loss. I wish I could help but I have a manual and am not familar with how the Ranger autos work. Good luck on getting her fixed up back up again, someone will be along soon that can actually help you. :)
