PEOPLE WITH 4.10s!!!

i have noticed that whenever i'm at a stop light, and it turns green, and i slowly push the gas down, whenever the truck shifts gears, it feels really really firm and slightly jumpy, does anyone else expirence this problem?

also my tranny will pause mid-shift, i'll gain 2k or so rpm, then it'll shift into the next gear...i guess my automatic is double clutching for me...haha

My truck was doing the same thing recently...just had the transmission valve body replaced under ESP. Not bad...$2000 worth of work/parts for $50! CHA-CHING!!

shifting hard is not a good thing. look at your tranny fluid, it may just be low. if its a brown or black color, or smells burnt CHANGE IT, if you dont your tranny will die

as far as the short shift, they all do that, ford took a 4 speed auto and made into a 5sp auto buy just adding a gear between 2 others

My shift points are VERY smooth...

But it could be the chip too.. Although i think it only works at high rpm's..

possibly ur filter is getting clogged and its not getting enough flow so the ECU bumped line pressure to over come it. no matter what, change ur ATF at 30,000 or 2 yrs. especially if u live in a city with lots of stop n go driving. do urself a favor and change the fluid and filter. ur tranny will thank u.

I would recommend taking it to a tranny shop...you DON'T want to change the fluid with that many miles on it ..
You could mess things up more than it is now ...Ie ...wont go into gear..you could lose reverse ..many more problems than you already have!

some say that the clean trans fluid will actually clean some of the friction material from the worn clutches out of the valve body, seals, etc because that sludge is holding it together. IMO, if the fluid is a brownish color ur ok to change it, if its black and/or smells burnt then ur on borrowed time. burnt trans fluid=overheated ATF which breaks down the composition of the fluid which means it doesnt do its job.

personally i dont believe that and i still recommened changing the filter/fluid.

ok i dont get that crap about not changing it, I had a escort auto with 90000 it started shifting bad so i changed the filter and fluid, after that it shifted fine, I sold it and the guy talked to the guy they other day and he hasnt done anything to the trans or motor at all and its got 135000 on it now.......explain that.....

also my father who is a master mechanic, and has been one for over 38 years just changed his trans fluid at 80000 on his f-150, and he doesnt see this as a bloody problem.

Ok ...i gave ya'll my recomendation and you don't like it..thats fine..
If you change it and it messes up dont cry !! I warned you..If it doesnt thats good...You are lucky.
I have done many tranny services on newer cars..and the ones with high miles who havent had them serviced I dont do just for the fact that i dont want to buy a tranny for them...
I have talked to many customers who have changed their fluid when i recomended taking it to a tranny shop and they have had to rebuild it

what's the difference between you changing the tranny fluid and filter versus a tranny shop?
LOL out with the old and in with the new jsut MUCH cheaper.

the difference is if you take it to a GOOD tranny shop they will check it out first..it may need to be rebuilt!..
they dont just change the fluid!!!
If so i would have said do it your self!

*sighS* Cant we all just get along....

I agree with both sides..
If the fluid is just brown and smells ok.. I would change it and the filter.
If its burnt or looks really bad... you should have it checked out.
Alot cheaper if you do it before it self-destructs.
