rear disc brake conversion help?

I have a 99 2.5L single cab ranger. i wanna swap out my drum brakes for disc brakes. ive seen this done before. Usually with 8.8's from mustangs or explorers. But insted of buying the whole rear end can i swap the drums and just put sum rotors on insted? is that possible? and can i still have my truck lowered or will it effect it? thanks guys i appreciate it.
