just order a master install kit for a 8.8 it will have all new bearings and shims for it.. you could use your old bearings and shims and just put em all back on the way they came off.. but if i was you i would go back with new bearings its cheap insureance.. jegs are summit and any place that sells gears should have the kit

If you don't currently have an LS you can buy one on summit for 195. you'll then need to go to ford and purchase carrier bearings, outer axle seals and friction modifier. You'll re-use your open carrier shims, mark which goes on which side.
If you currently have an LS then just buy a rebuild kit.
Don't weld it. Thats worse than trying to use wood glue instead of RTV to seal your dif cover.

i already have a bottle of friction modifier, i knew i would need that and bought some already.
i knew about marking them, i watch enough truck shows to know at least that much. the next thing i have to learn is backlash.
another question, do you need friction modifier if you use a synthetic oil? also what is the weight isn't it like 145w90 or something like that?
i wish i had money for a locker. i guess when i put a solid one up front, i will swap in a 31 spline that is built out back.
thanks all

lol well if you are re-using the shims and just replacing the open carrier with the LS the backlash is already set 98% of the time and you won't have to mess with it but its always good to check
