can you guys leave pics of your drive shaft i need to figure something out

 

 

Mine is just like Zach's, but steel(rusty lol) and there's a kickdown where the slide action is located, compaired to Zach's big fat slide action. Sorry...I can't come up with the correct name of the "slide action". The slide action is up by the tcase end on mine.

EDIT: SLIP! that's the word.

 

Man that is one pretty driveshaft..sure wish mine would look like that

 

there was a tsb on the steel driveshaft for the 01 trucks. the bump(im sure you have felt it)when you come to a stop and/or take off, yea, thats the slip joint binding.. when i first bought my truck i took it back to the dealer... they replaced my steelie with the aluminum one... apparently, they followed gm's wonderful design of about 15-20 years ago and the slip join just didnt work correctly...

 

is that tsb with 2 or 4 wheel drive and if its for 4 wheel where can i get an aluminum one like zachs

 

 

it was 4wd trucks i believe. the ford replacement for the steel one is aluminum. call your local ford dealer.

 

TT Performance has them for $241.95....he is a vendor on numerous other Ranger sites...i think he is a member here also...

the aluminium shaft was on both 4wd and 2wd trucks....the one like Zach has pictured above is for a 4wd truck....the 2wd trucks have the slip joint in the transmission, not in the shaft like the above pictured....

also, both 2wd and 4wd trucks were mixed with aluminium and steel shafts. there was no set year that Ford switched to the just the aluminium shaft.....i believe it is still that way...

 

most all 03s have an aluminum shaft. i personally wish i had a steel one at this time

 

Why? I'm guessing the steel one is stronger.

yes....espically on direct hits...

 

but even the ranger steel one is not that great. i would rather have one like my front driveshaft.

 

Find a steel Ranger shaft and have it retubed.

 

i have about a million people that want to trade me. lol so i dont think i will have a problem getting one.

 

only the 4wd had the problem... the 2wd shaft, like you said, had the slip yoke in the transmission, thus leaving no binding up pos slip joint in the shaft..

 

buy it from ford...

 

or get one custom made for 460$ dont ask me how i know that...

 

thats why im not going to get rid of my steel shaft.

 

To get a steel one retubed should be about half that. Its always best to bring them a shaft to modify as its usually always cheaper then a fully new custom shaft.

 

yeah except i destroyed mine at the dunes... they had to scrap it and make new.

 

You destroyed the yokes? If the yokes were still good they could have used them.

 

is there only a recall on 01's? because mine does it pretty bad...
