Help about rear axle
There is a complete rear axle for sale with low mileage close to me. The truck is gone but the drivetrain is all there. Its from a 2002 2wd with a 4.0 motor and automatic transmission. There is no tag on the rearend. Is there a guide or way to tell what gears and or limited slip could be in it? Thanks for any help on this.

Put the axle up on a pair of jackstands.
Turn the pinion shaft in one direction while a helper watches both axle hubs.
If they turn in opposite directions from one another , it's an open diff.
Now set the pinion yoke with a bearing cup at 12 o'clock , mark it at the top with a sharpie pen.
Without moving the pinion , mark an axle hub at 12 o'clock.
With your helper watching the hub , count the turns of the pinion it takes for the hub to make exactly one revolution.
Just a tad over 4 revs = 4.10
3 and 3/4 revs = 3.73
Those are the most common.

FYI:
It's a 8.8 with 3.55 L/S..................does it have the shock mounts for a Ranger? 8.8's weren't very common in 4X2 Rangers is why I ask......sounds like an Explorer setup, but then again..........anythin is possible!
