how concerned should i be?
I have a unique noise coming from what appears my transmission. The noise is only present after the truck has been driven/warmed up and when its idling. The noise is like a humming noise almost like a belt on a pulley (hard to describe) that follows the rpms of the engine but is not overly loud but clearly noticable. So for example i pull in my drive way and either have the clutch in; in first gear or have it in neutral with the clutch out that's when the noise is present.
I searched here and on other ranger sites and have not found anything related to my issue. I have thought about flushing out the fluids and using synthetic atf but I would like to get your guy's input before hand. My truck is a manual transmission 4x4. Thanks in advance!

with the clutch depressed, the T/O bearing is running, so if it makes the noise with the pedal depressed it IS the T/O bearing. if it only makes it with the pedal released, its the pilot bearing or a bearing in the tranny.

It is definetly not the throwout bearing if it is the same noise with clutch in or out. Possibly pilot bearing... Doubtful though. Probably not a clutch issue

Fairly certain, I went to an exhaust shop to see where exactly my exhaust leak is coming from and he was telling me i have a weird noise coming from the tranny. I was wanting to take a video clip of the sound but unfortunately the exhaust leak (exhaust manifold gasket) is too noisy to hear the noise clearly.
I've had a throwout bearing go on me once before so I knew right away it wasnt that. But its similar becuase the truck has to be warm in order for the noise to appear. The clutch, slave cylinder, throwout bearing etc were replaced about a year and a half to two years ago. Question is, did they replace the pilot bearing in the process.....oi vay!
The transmission works great its just the noise that worries me. I'd hate for it to be a rebuild/replace.
