4.0 v6 with a manual and 2wd possible?

So I tried searching around and nobody seems to have done what I have been thinking about. So I just bought this 2000 ranger with a 2.5 and a 5 speed, 2wd. I was thinking it would be a cool idea to swap a 4.0 sohc into it and I want to keep it a 5 speed and 2wd. I guess I'm asking if this is possible and if it is a relitavely easy thing to do? And if not what would be a good idea as far as a swap that would be CARB legal?

No idea about the CARB deal but it'd definitely be a straightforward swap!

Do all ranger motors pretty much bolt right into place?

Not sure about bolting in place, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to get a new tranny too. the 2wd ones don't bolt up. The parts are definitely out there, i've seen 2wd 4.0 liters.

Or you could just buy one. They are not that common but they are around. My last ranger was a 4.0, stick, 2wd, reg cab. Fast but sketchy in the rain with an open diff.
