wrong gear ratio

well ill start by saying i did a search and found nothing really helpful but my check engine light came on like 4 months ago and i got it fixed but a transmission code came up as well and said i had a wrong 3rd gear ratio and was likely caused by my 32's. but my question is does anyone know what i can do to fix the transmission code? like new gears maybe 4.10's or the like. any info will help. preciate it.

what gears are you running now? I also assume you have an auto tranny. Regearing may help your problem

I dont see how 32's could make it a different ratio... How can it tell if you are doing
38mph or 35mph? the tires are going the same rpm as before? Not like the thing
has a gps built in.

The gear ratio for the code is determined by speed sensors in the transmission for measuring the RPM of the transmission shafts. It compares the commanded gear ratio to the measured ratio inside the transmission.

You can install any size tires you want and it can't cause that code.

That would be caused by whatever hold clutch is applied in that gear is probably slipping enough to create a differentiation in speed compared to the programmed/commanded speed differentiation.

yeah stock 3.73's i think they are and an auto tranny. i didnt think it would make a difference either ive got a friend at school runnin 33's with everything stock on a 4.0, auto and she has no problem. i mean when i get on it and it hits around 35 to 45 and changes gears it jerks hard and the truck shakes. then after that it will shift smooth again. i dont know whats goin on.

sounds to me like the tranny is startin to go... not really what you wanted to hear im sure. when the transmission starts act up there isnt normally much that can be done. it can be babied, the fluids can be changed and such, but normally nothing brings em back. unless something just got screwed up in the programming, then you may be in for a pricy fix... it's definitly something in the transmission.

Sounds like your transmission definitely has issues...

If you want to re-gear for your 32s, here's a ring gear calculator:

Weren't the 01's the year that had the valve body gasket issue, or one of the years anyway, along with the reverse servo gasket blowing out in them.

I would take your transmission to a good shop now.. might be alot cheaper
than after alot of parts crap out.
How many miles on your fluid?
It might just be a crapped up valve body or something.

i bought the truck used with 58000 miles on it and the guy who had before me kept track of everything he did like oil changes, etc. up until about 30000 miles but nothing about the tranny was written down and i have never changed it myself so it could be 80000 miles old. i have spring break next week so i planned on taking it to get looked then.
