transmission noises 5spd

my transmission has been making an odd noise for quite some time, infact, i think it did it when i bought it 6 months ago... it is a little worrysome though...

it sounds like some kind of combination between water running through a pipe in the wall, the kinda trickling noise, and dirty brake rotors spinning, that grinding noise... it's very quiet, and only happens when the clutch is engaged, and the motor is running, doesn't matter if i'm in neutral or in any gear, i can hear it while driving, i don't hear it under heavy load, but that could be because the other noises are drowning it out...

any thoughts?

You've got a Level II....so you've got the chrome shifter and leather boot. Fact of the matter is, I'm 75% positive what you're hearing is totally normal and all Fx4's with that shifter does it. Reason being is that that particular shifter is missing ALOT of sound/vibration deadening material in it when compared to the stock ugly black shifter. The base of the normal shifters are like 2" diameter and the shaft is only about 1/2"....the difference is rubber sound absorbing material....and it goes from bottom all the way to the top. Your shifter you've got now only has that deadening material in the base of the shifter for about 2".

What you hear is transmission gear meshing. It'll whine. It might rattle a little bit. It'll change pitch with trans rpm.

i don't completely follow you, but yes, i've got the chrome shifter with the leather boot, so what i DID get is you think this is normal on all rangers, just don't hear it on the base models, because of the different shifter gear, and thus is normal noise for a transmission?

lol Dude I had a 93 stick, a 02 stick, an 05 stick, and now another 02 stick...and they ALL make that noise. I think it has something to do with the throw out bearing...but I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

Glad that I found this thread... and weezl, I'm not thread stalking or anything, somehow I've just come across all of your threads today. My truck has done this since day one... I never remember it because I always listen to music while driving, but when I've got somebody in the truck with me and the volume is down low, I think, "what the hell is that noise?"
