99 Ranger XLT 3.0L 5 speed 4 X 4 step side, my outer boot is busted, need to change the boot or whole axle , how does the inner joint dislodge from the diff. Thanks in advance.

 

Just change the whole cv. It has a snap ring and you just get a small bar and it pops out.

Got the C/V axle changed out today, had to replace the bearing hub as well, the small needle bearings for the abs ring came apart. This is the 3rd wheel bearing hub I've put on this side since December. Are they all junk, or do I just have bad luck.

 

Don't go cheap on wheel bearings and make sure you torque them properly. If they are under or over torqued it can cause premature failure.

 

could be just dumb luck. I replaced one and it made it just under 15k after the original died at 60k. The passenger side is still the factory one at 110k. You must properly torque the nut to the proper torque, don't just hammer it on.

 

what brand of bearing did you install

the driver bearing always the most abuse because of the drivers weight and the weight of the fuel tank

 

Bought it from O'Riellys auto parts, performance auto I think, and it was the driver side.

 

when it comes to wheel bearings

only purchase SKF or TIMKEN . that new bearing you installed was manufactured in china

it will fail soon again

SKF is the bearing supplier for the rangers
