Icon4 A4LD tranny trouble

My dad has a 92 ranger 4.0L 4x4 with the A4LD auto trans. Today he was sitting in it after driving and he revved it up in park and it took off. Now there is no park. Any thoughts or ideas?

EDIT: If you put the selector in park and rev it up it will take off like its in drive. But if you do nothing with it in park it will just roll away. I found on other forums that my symptoms can be caused by a broken reverse pawl. I am currently in the process of taking it apart to check the pawl.

After getting info from other forums, I've seen many say on a 4x4 A4LD the parking pawl is "practically right there after you take the transfer case off". All I see is the output shaft and a solenoid/governor. Am I messing something here?

I didn't know I had to also take off the extension housing but I got it off and found the parking pawl broken in half.
