Try lube locker if you don't want RTV, they make a nice gasket for the 8.8.

The trick with the RTV is to run a bead on the diff cover, and let it set up for at least 2 or 3 minutes before you put it on there.. if its too soft and you torque the bolts down you'll squeeze too much out and it won't make a lasting seal.

Hey guys, just a quick somewhat related question. I'm in the middle of replacing my rear diff fluid and was about to reassemble but noticed my Haynes manual does not list the torque specs for the diff cover bolts. Does anyone know the torque spec for these bolts. It's a '97 4x4. Appreciate any input. Thanks.
