Bad ABS/Speed sensor on Axle?

Some may know that i used to have a Mustang LSD dif. in the rear and it did not have the tone ring, so as a result i lost abs and the light came on etc. no big deal..but, After getting my old diff back in with the no-slip in it, my rear end now had the tone ring back in and should be good to go to fix the ABS/ABS light issue, and my speedo(since its used by the explorer setup). But it still has the light up, i have no ABS, and the speedo doesnt work. Now for a while i had the sensor unplugged to the axle cause i was dumb and thought it might turn the light off i guess..lol, and then i never plugged it back in. Sooo im hoping my problem might be that i need a new sensor and i can just pop in a new one and be good to go. otherwise i guess i got some wiring to look at when it gets warmer. or a brake rebuild in the rear?

You didn't by chance remove the fuse for the ABS?

I'd start by looking back over the wiring and the connector. Make sure the term in the plug are clean and not corroded.

As you know, the original VSS in your 2002 used the pulse from the OSS on the tranny, corrected in the PCM, then sent a square wave to the speedometer, cruise, etc.

The 98~2001 Ex setup takes the axle ABS sensor pulse, corrects it for tire diameter in the Explorer 4WABS Module, then sends a square wave to the speedo, PCM, cruise, etc.

Are you using the original Ranger 4WABS Module or did you swap to an Explorer 4WABS Module? What year?

I'm using a 8.8 out of a ranger, and still using my old ranger 4wabs module, my original axle was a 7.5, and I think I have the 8.8 module installed.

If you simply plugged the Ex module into the Ranger connector, then that is your problem. The pinout is different between the 2001~03 Ranger and the 99~2001 Ex 4WABS Modules. For starters, the Ranger harness does not have the output wire to the speedometer on pin 19 that the Ex does. There are other differences in pinout that could account for the ABS light.

yeah i still have to wire it right. i was just running it all by you to make sure that its probably still because of the wiring and not because i have some sensor problems etc. its just too damn cold and i dont have a heated garage to get it done now. winter sucks
