Sticky Shifting

I have an '02 Ranger 5-speed and lately when I'm at a dead stop and try to shift into first or reverse the shifter doesn't want to slide ibto gear very easily. I have to really force it sometimes and other times have to force it into any other gear then go back and put it into 1st or reverse. After I get going it'll go into 2nd, 3rd, etc. easily then. A couple years ago someone was tellin me that on their mazda pickup in the tranny are these pins that move around as you shift so that you don't accidently into reverse or any other unwanted gear at certain speeds. If this is true then maybe these need to be greased or something. I want to know how to fix this problem cuase i hate when the light turns green and i'm sittin there for half a min tryin to shove it into gear.

Help Appreciated

take a look at the bottom of the tranny where the bellhousing meets the engine and see if its wet there. also take a look at the clutch fluid reservior and see if its getting low. if you are losing fluid and the bellhousing is wet then your slave is done for. if you are not losing fluid and the slave is not leaking then your master cylinder could be leaking internally and not holding pressure, but first thing to check is the slave cylinder and the fluid.
