ive heard that with a limited slip you need to add something to the diff fluid? well i ordered my rear locker today, when i fill the diff back up, do i need to use a friction modifier? or do i use a special kind of diff fluid?

you have to add a friction modifier to the gear oil when you fill it.

Sure, if he is installing another clutch based limited slip that would be relevant.

What locker is it? The documents provided with the locker should tell you what gear oil to use, or it will say to use what the trucks manual specifies.

Straight from the FAQ on their website. Found it in 15 seconds on my phone. lol

The Powertrax® Traction System and Lock-Right Locker do not require special tools or oils for installation. In most cases, a wrench and screwdriver are all you need. No special oil additives are required because the units are all gear (no frictional clutches).

Thought it was an "Eaton Powertrax"?? lol...

Anywho....my axle guy suggests the friction modifier on even a straight up open diff. something about the properties and the slickness it gives. I run it with my Aussie. I go by what he tells me since he's been building/modifying axles for 30+ years.

Sure you can add it, but I think it is just throwing money away personally.
Most gear oil comes with limited slip additive for the same price anyway, I would do that if anything.
