Anybody Know?

I have acquired an 02 Ranger Edge 3.0, 4wd, auto, it has a twisted frame but otherwise good condition. Is there any reason why I couldnt take that engine and trans and put it in my 98 which has the 3.0 also? the only hard part as i can tell is my 98 has the 4r44e and the 02 has the 5r44e trans. im assuming that would just be a matter of wiring harness+ control module.

Try using the search button located at the top bar. It's the 3rd from the right.

There are many knowledgeable members on the site and many have given their expert advise numerous times. The 4.0L engine swap has been covered several times in the past with great detail.

I know you'll find your answers in the search. Just thought I'd help you in the right direction, being new and all.

Welcome to RF BTW.

if your swapping 3.0 to 3.0 i dont see why you couldnt do it. There might be somethings you have to swap off the current motor though.

There will be complications. Here are a couple I can think of off the top of my head; there are probably more:

Speedometer:
98 VSS uses the rear axle sensor and adjusts the signal in the GEM or 4WABS Module.
2002 uses a transmission sensor and adjusts it in the PCM.
Wiring changes needed.

PATS:
98 has no PATS components
2002 has PCM based PATS and will not start without it. Requires transceiver module, coded keys, added wiring.
If the PCM and all of the PATS parts can be transplanted from the same 2002 donor, it may be possible to avoid a tow to the dealer for PCM programming.
