trans slipped outa gear/now nothing
I have a 95 4x4 auto, that just slipped out of forward gear in an intersection , and would not go into any gear after that,,,, except park ! I have searched this site and have noticed a lot of similar problems, usually the trucks will go into at least one gear, but not mine.I found a video on youtube last night where the guy said that this is common problem on the rangers and it's a blown/torn valvebody gasket. He removed the pan, filter , valvebody and spacer plate, and both valve body gaskets were torn in a couple places and spitting the gasket out of the side of the valvebody. He said this causes fluid pressure loss, and it starts out being lazy going into gear, and escalates to not engaging at all. I am pulling my trans pan tomorrow, and seperating the valve body, so I will post what I find. I read several posts and all I really learned , is TRANNY IS SHOT !!! This may still be the case, but I will tear it apart and check the gaskets , and troublesoot till I find the issue. Has anybody else gone thru the troublesooting process ? Any Pointers ? zip kit
I ran across a few valve body rebuild kits, and decided on the Sonnax Zip Kit, It addresses all of the updates on this trans valve body. It has new end o ringed end plugs a miriad of small parts and some modifications as well as a higher pressure boost valve and spring, and it claims higher pressure to the torque converter and overdrive circuits, and also claims firmer, faster shifts. I will update as I rebuild the valve body. I am shocked that I haven't had any feedback from anyone yet, is anybody currently experiencing this issue with their trans ? bubs440
