Well... assuming it still has body panels... the axle codes can be found on the doors. Otherwise there should a tag looking thing on the axle that will tell you what was originally in it. Now granted if it's been modified, nothing you can do except pull it apart and look at it.

Use this for more information:

A limited slip is not a locker. It will do SOME good depending on the situation. But if you have a wheel up in the air or on solid ice, it is still going to spin the useless wheel.

Buy the 4.10 axle from the junkyard so you don't have to set up the gears and then buy a lunchbox locker. I think I saw one either here or on TRS for $100.

Actually non of the above will have a posi! Posi-Trac is a GM terminology, But I guess its like using the word band-aid now!

Like stated before, you need to read these replys. Explorer axles are spring under axle while rangers are spring over axle. So your going to need to get new spring perches and shock mounts. I've done this swap and its amazing. As for will both wheel spin. For the most part yes. I'm running a little less than half the friction modifier your suppose to so that mine locks up easier. Around corners going slow my wheels lock up and I get the chirp. In the snow it also locks up. If I get tire on ice and one one the ground the one on ice will spin while the other doesn't.

Yes, go to the scrap yard and get either a 7.5 or an 8.8 from a ranger with 4.10's. Ideally an 8.8 from an fx4 or an explorer would be much stronger (31spline v. 28 spline), but a 7.5 will stand up to a decent amount of punishment. I recommend staying away from the a factory ls unless you want to rebuild it. I couldn't find a lunchbox locker, only a detroit. Keep your eyes open and put up a WTB. You'll find one.
