I have a 99 XLT, 4 banger, 5 speed bone stock motor and drivetrain. Do you guys hear your trans while driving? It does not sound like anything is wrong, it is just kinda noisy in the cab. Is this normal? Does anyone have any tips to muffle this, I was thinking about putting a pillow under the shifter boot/cup area?

I searched and found nothing, thanks for any advice or feedback.

 

my old transmission mad a lot of noise in fifth gear before i had to replace it but it made noise a long time before it went bad. my new/used transmission still makes some noise but not like the last one. i dont know if it is just worse now becuase i have my carpet out or not. but i wouldnt shove something flameable under the shifter boot there is quite a bit of heat that comes up out of there.

 

Thanks Zach for taking the time to help me out. I did some research and read something about the shifter. XLT vs FX4 shifter are different, someone changed to the FX4 and it helped. The mount is more solid than the XLTs, is what I am understanding now. Correct me if I am wrong.

 

funny, I was just reading a how-to about muffling a hurst shifter's rattle.

Im guessing get something heat resistant and put it under the boot.

 

Let me know if you find any secret product or something. I am willing to give anything a try. I will try to do some more research too.
