Back in December when I replaced the clutch in my 2000 Ranger the parts guy told me it calls for both a self adjusting and non self adjusting. Because the self adjusting was $200 more I got the other one. When I removed the old clutch it had springs built into the dick that the new one did not. I called the parts guy and he assured me the one I just bought would do the job. So, several months later and I have had nothing but clutch problems ever since. The parts guy told me the parts I bought are still under warranty. So before I go in and get the parts that cost $200 more over the $200 I already spent, can some tell me what the self adjusting clutch does? Why would it make a difference? If everything else is installed correctly and the system is properly bled, could that be my problem?

 

you MUST use a self adjusting pressure plate if the truck originally came with one, or you will always have clutch drag/improper pedal feel problems. That is out of control that it is $200 more, as i dont think i even paid $200 for the clutch kit for my 98 from the dealership. Also, beware that the adjustable pressure plate may not be in the reset position when it arrives in shipment, so it will need to be reset using a hydraulic press.

If the slave or master was replaced, i would bleed one more time following the "ranger clutch bleeding" youtube vid. by perfection clutch

 

Dealer was through the roof when I called for a clutch kit. They wanted $400/500 for a stock clutch. I ordered mine online and unfortunately had someone install it as I dont have the tools yet.

 

They are very costly. I have bled and replaced the master cylinder three times. I know the issue is in the bell housing. Now, how do I know if it is postioned correctly?

 

there will be 3-4 small springs around the outer diameter of the pressure plate. when you install the pressure plate, these springs should be compressed fully

 

Should be compressed unistalled? Or do I have to compress them in order to install it?

 

they should be compressed with the pressure plate in your hand...they will automatically adjust the first time you press the clutch pedal and continue to adjust as you drive
