i have a 2003 ranger 3.0 auto 2wd transmission is gone second one this year so i wanna swap it over to manual . i have a 2000 ranger xlt 3.0 with manual trans can i swap this into my 2003 ? if so what do i need to make the swap work
Nope, your truck uses an output shaft speed sensor to calculate the speed and may also use the signal for other engine functions. This started in 2002, and the older transmissions do not have the output shaft speed sensor. The trans will physically bolt up just fine, but you may run into a host of other issues if your computer doesn't receive that signal from the OSS.
And then there's the problem with just running the auto ECU. That causes a host of other issues that will need to be tuned out with tuning software.
There's also a decent amount of wiring that needs to be done.
Plus a new driveshaft since 4x2 manuals run a longer driveshaft than the automatic trucks.
You're opening a huge can of worms with this swap and you do need to do all the research you can before you even consider this option.
