Hub Assembly

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4. I am having to replace both front hub assemblies and I dont know what all is supposed to hold the hub assembly on. all that came in te box is a little plastic piece. Shouldn't there be a snap ring or something?

Are you talking about the AVM hubs? If so, see:

If you're just talking about the wheel bearing\hub assemblies then there are 3 bolts that hold the assembly to the knuckle.

The halfshaft is held in by an orange snap ring. I suggest buying a new one if you don't have the tools. As its easy to destroy the thing with out the right puller.

I got mine from here.

you don't need the tool, you might as well destroy the ring getting it out since you need to replace it anyways.. and the stupid plastic piece costs $16!!!!!!!!!!!!! A LITTLE ORANGE PLASTIC SNAP RING!

for the first time ever Ford!

I had to order the plastic plug and pigtail from ford that plugs into the t-case and turns on the 4x4 high and low lights.

ONE little plastic plug with two wires was $28 .....just a little overpriced i'd say but I didn't really have a choice.

I used a screwdriver. Just pry a little and turn and pry a little and turn.

Some penatrent may help.

On a side note. If your planning on keep the pvh stuff replace all seals on the knuckle, a leak will cause you to lose 4wd.
