lookin for some hub/trans info
hi, new member here, long time owner though................i have a 1991 explorer 4x4 that has seen better days, ive bought a 89 ranger 4x4 with a slippery auto transmission, fiirst ?, will the mile marker hubs (put on the explorer 2 years ago and locked in 2 times, and drove 50 miles, brand new) fit the 89 ranger? Second ?, what model would you call the most common 4 speed auto trans in a 89 ranger? has anybody ever swapped one out? if i decided to swap to a 5 speed would my t case fit?

the hubs won't fit because the Ranger has a Dana 28 front axle where the Explored has the Dana 35 front axle and the hubs aren't interchangeable....
The transmission you are thinking of is the A4LD.....they are pure junk, I would swap in a manual transmission.....
Your transfer case will bolt up.....all Ranger/Explorers have the same t-case bolt pattern...

One possibility is swapping the entire front D35 into the ranger from the explorer if the explorer is on its way out, then the hubs would fit hehe. It is a direct swap from the D28 to the D35 also and very easy if you have both vehicles sitting there next to eachother.
Yes the tranny is an A4LD and swapping in a manual is a great solution. What engine does the ranger have?
