Mine does this as well, but mines not stock at all.

Has anyone ever figured out what makes the noise? It sounds kinda like the driveshaft to me since its more of a hollow sound, atleast for me.

no my friend that owned my truck before me bought a new driveshaft from ford, and i check it all the time its tight as anything. i havent figured out what it is yet, but i makes me worry about the backlash on the gears.

So you hear a noise when shifting gears, but think its the rear end? What about the obvious choice of the Trannsmisison?

my dads truck does the same thing. im pretty sure it happens because theres pressure on the tranny making it not shift out of grear smoothly.

thats my guess also it did it when i was bone stock on 30's and it still does it on 33's but only on steep driveways works fine on the roads i just avoid parking on steep driveways

well i took my truck to truckin up and i was told my rear end was going out oo and my truck has always done the loud thump noise from switchin into gear on a hill but this is like a metal clanking noise im going to try to record it to get a better opinion of what is going on with this thing... but my best bet is just hold out till i get my 8.8 and see if it stops oo its not the u joints either just changed them last night

It's maybe your u-joints, and if not that, the ring and pinion has too much play in it. You can shim up the ring and pinion to stop the clunking, but that 7.5 is definitely too weak for those tires.

The 7.5 is not that bad of an axle. It can take a decent amount of abuse.

X2

The Ford 7.5 is a great axle.

The weak link is the janky notched crosspin they come with.

they cant take the abuse that a 3.0 gives it on 33's.

And the reason that happened is the cross pin.
