Hey so I'm doing front end work to my ranger. its a 1993, 3.0, 5 speed, with pushbutton 4x4 and auto hubs. 4x4 works great. but since i was doing wheel bearings and brakes i looked into my hubs and i found that the bearing that sits in the end of the hub is missing half of the *****! it is a ball bearing and the hub rebuild kit i found is a roller needle bearing. the bearing in the kit is also much bigger than the one i took out. I've never seen a ball bearing in the ranger hubs before and can't find any info on it online.

Anyone seen anything like this before? is this hub originally from something else?
any help would be appreciated!

They might be aftermarket bearings in the hubs.
i've never even tried to replace that bearing, i think it would be easier to just get a whole new outer hub.

 

Thanks for the quick response. i figured it might be easier to get a new hub. maybe swap to manual hubs? i just don't understand why a stock replacement bearing won't fit into my hub. does that look like a stock TTB hub?

 

Yea, the insides look right.
But like i said, i've never heard of anyone replacing the bearings in the hub itself.
It may have been done, but i've never heard of it.
