Urgent!! Need 2WD AT help.

Hey all,

I have a 1986 that I just swapped out a tranny in. Pertinent info, got the used tranny from a pick-n-pull, plugs seem to match perfectly, ground strap may be bolted in wrong place (forgot where it was and bolted at flexplate/bellhousing bolt). Anyway, now the truck wont start. Starter won't even turn. Battery was diconnected throughout process. All electrical systems come on. I'm not sure if the nuetral safety is in the tranny or gear selector. Sooo...I'm thinking either I need to move that groundstrap or the nuetral safety switch is in the tranny and is bad. Anybody know which before I go out in my driveway tomorrow and lay down in the rain again? Thanks.

could be one of the two. Check to make sure you are getting power from the ignition switch to the starter (the small wire going to the solinoid). I helped a friend do a trans in his truck and we accidently broke that wire and didnt realise it till it wouldnt start. lol

A ground wire is a ground wire, it doesn't matter where it's grounded,as long as it's grounded to metal. I agree with Ranger024x4. look at the starter solonoid wire.

You can also jump out the starter solenoid and see if the starter turns over.
