Noise while driving - thought it was a bearing

I had searched some of the other forums about this issue. Noise heard above 35 mph and is not the tires. This noise goes away in right hand turns. I had believed that it was the right side hub bearing but apparently I made a $250 mistake.

Anyone point me in the right direction? I'm not about to go putting in part after part hoping it will fix it.

What happens when you turn left? Just going down the road it's howling? Does it change with engine rpm? As in; 35mph with o/d off, vs 35mph with o/d on?

Noise is still there while turning left. Increases in volume with speed. Manual transmission, no change in sound no matter the gear. The sound is the same in 2nd vs. 4th at the same mph. No increase with rpm. However, it is not always the same and sometimes is not present at all.

It was actually both bearings. I know the judgment is subjective but the left side actually made more noise than the right. $500 worth of bearings later and the noise is all gone.
