Tranny Troubles

When accelerating my trany will jerk right as I put my foot on the gas and then again as I hit about 5mph. It shifts hard between 1st and 2nd. When coasting if I tap the gas petal it will jerk and thud.

You cant really hear anything, its just shakes the truck and has a bit of a jerk.

Now 2 weeks ago I was pulling a 1500# trailer for about 200 miles and then last week I was towing a 2600# trailer for 400 miles. After doing that towing it seems to have gotten worse. It got worse as I was towing and stayed that way.

If I flip on 4wd the acceleration is smooth but I dont know abotu shifting because I dont dare to go that fast in 4wd.

It was barely noticable when I bought the truck and has only gotten worse since.

Any ideas on what might be wrong or is my tranny screwed?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I am a new Ranger owner, and have spent the past hr searching threads to try to isolate an issue. This is the first thread I've hit that describe what I am experiencing exactly. Unfortunately no responses....

"my trany will jerk right as I put my foot on the gas and then again as I hit about 5mph."

That is EXACTLY what I am seeing. The second I touch the gas, I get a thud, and about a second later, a 2nd thud (thump, jerk, shudder, whatever you want to call it). No noise, just the thud.

Any Ideas
