Wheel locks up on reverse

I have run into a frusterating problem

Whenever i reverse my passenger rear wheel locks up

e-brake is disconnected (cable is cut at the hub),

Issue does not show itself with tires off the ground,

Issues occured before and after replacing all the rear drum hardware (shoes, drums, and all springs)

Any ideas, as noted when i have vehicle in air everything spins freely

Wheel shouldn't spin "freely"
Shoes should drag on drum.
If shoes are not pressing against the drum then they can shift, locking up rear wheel.

If e-brake cable has been broken for awhile it may be keeping the adjuster from moving.
Did you remove the e-brake cable from inside the drum?

Other thing is the differential, have you tried using reverse with wheels off the ground.
It is a long shot but a 2WD axle will be OPEN so if there was a problem developing inside only 1 wheel would show it.
Is the rear end making any louder humming than "normal", or do you feel any slack in the drive train when putting into gear and moving forward or back

I had the vehicle in reverse in the air and both wheel spun with no issues, would grab one wheel and it would stop turning and the other would continue so it feels like the diff is acting normally, no weird noises while driving.

I have not removed the ebrake assembly/cable from inside the drum so its still connected.

however i will also note there was a snapped cable that went from the top spring mount to the adjuster lever on that side. so im thinking that might be part of the issue, also both sides are missing the parking brake link and spring.

Hopeing it is just the drums, and that i dont have to resort to gutting them and just running front brakes, although ive done that before on other vehicles but its not my first choice

Removed all of the rear brakes and disconnected/plugged off rear lines at master cylinder.

Vehicle still does same thing, go in reverse and the passenger rear wheel locks up

Also i notice when slowing down in forward i hear a loud clunk in back.

So i guess its time to open up the diff cover and see whats up

Wheel locking up

Definitely need to take cover off, pull pin and check side gears, rotate it by hand first with hand on the drive shaft, definitely in rear end hopefully ring and pinion ok ,just spider gears

A friend is giving me a new rear end for the vehicle, however i had to cut the pinion flange bolts as i had no heat or correct 12pt socket to remove them

Anyone know what size bolt/threads they are? dont have time to order part, need to goto hardware store to get replacements

Ok and replacement rear end does same thing, although it could be the brakes, it was sitting in a field for over a year.... otherwise we found the pinion bearing was bad on the old one. so we can rebuild that one, sigh i feel like vehicles like to make me fix them
