I think my wife got those for me for Christmas! Thanks for the heads up on the grease, I wouldn't have known about that.

Oh, your hands are dirty.

The instructions do say, however, to lubricate the AVM hubs with 30W motor oil if they are disassembled. So i'm thinking regular motor oil, or maybe even some WD-40, might be a better option.

Also, in checking out the AVM hubs here at my desk, I notice that when you turn the **** toward the "FREE" position there is some sort of spring-device inside that wants to pull the **** back toward the "LOCK" position. At the same time the **** is turning, the hub engagement splines are moving in and out quite freely. The spring-device does not offer much tension, and so it might be a consideration that whatever sort of lubrication is applied, it should not interfere with this free movement of the engagement splines. That might even be why a "lighter" lubricant such as motor oil is recommended.

The thing about the AVM hubs is that they haven't been available here in the US all that long. So there hasn't been enough time gone by for people to report back on things such as what kind of lubricant does or does not work better after several years of use. I think it's a good thing that different people are applying different kinds of lubes now, so that later on there will be some basis for comparison.

Nice job on the writeup, BTW.

^ just plastic clips, great design right?? yea no

and i wouldn't use grease if you live where its cold.

the hub wont disengage right when you unlock it.

i broke a cv shaft because of it, i also broke the hub trying to pull it off when it was cold.
....granted no one else has the issue i have/had in the front end

but where its warm/hot.. say Texas, grease was GREAT nice smooth engagement every time

i've woke up after night wheelin to find no hub on one side..
another one came apart
the new rugged ridge pos's cant take a rubber mallet tapping on it so i already broke one of those..

but whats the alternative? PVH shat?
i'm just ticked that Warns are ~100 a set and they have a lifetime warranty.. these are the same price and if i was keeping IFS i would have to buy my 3rd set

so would you recommend just doing the mod where you take the contact metal stripe out of the hub so it acts as a live axel all the time? how reliable is that mod really?

it worked for me i think..

but then for some reason the t-case wouldn't stay in low.. putting the AVMs on fixed that problem somehow.
