How To: AVM Hub Install Version 2

Parts needed: AVM Manual Lockout Hubs, Model 470

Tools needed: One(1) medium width flat head screw driver
One(1) very small flat head screw driver, or dental pick

How To:
Park on a flat/level surface with ample room around the vehicle

Remove the center cap to expose your Pulse Vacuum Hubs(PVH).

Next, Use your medium flat head screwdriver to carefuly pry the PVH tabs from their seats.

Then Slide the PVH out of the wheel hub.
Next, remove the old rubber o-ring from the hub useing either the small flat headed screw driver or the dental pick.

Install the supplied new o-ring.

Place the AVM hub in the "Locked Position".

Lastly, line up the splines with the AVM hub, you may need to rotate the CV shaft to line the splines up. Once you line the hub and splines up press the hub in firmly until it clicks in place.

Put your tire back on.

Is there any info on capping the vacuum line? Any info/pics would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm guessing it's not that simple with wheels like this, right? I've taken the wheels off plenty of times, but I don't recall anything like the piece that was removed in the 1st post.

its because 01+ doesn't have PVH hubs, its live axle. if you wanted to do this on 2001+ you need to swap in older axles and stuff

Looking at doing this conversion. I know I will need to replace hubs, shafts, etc. with the older style stuff, but about to do that anyway. Does anyone know if the AVM hubs will fit thru the newer style wheels shown above?

People have enlarged the center bore on the wheels to make em fit. its pretty simple to do but I can't find the thread

I plan to do this in the summer as well. I have all the parts minus the hubs

I did this on my old '98 and loved it. I had always wondered about doing a "retro-fit" type thing on my '03, but I had heard mixed things about which set up is better/stronger.

Manual is the way to go. The only downfall is that you'll be dropping down the size of your front rotors.

I've heard over and over that the live axle setup is stronger. Manual hubs let you add a locker, or unlock if something up front breaks.

I want to switch mainly for on road improvements, but not gonna do it if I need to cut up my wheels or get new ones.

Interesting points. That's actually what I was wondering the most about; if the on-road benefits would outweigh the downsides. I honestly don't do a ton of off- roading and figure not having a live axle would save a little on wear and tear as well as help gas mileage a little bit. I hadn't really thought about the fact that you'd have to go with smaller rotors though.
