Hi, group, from a new member with a '93 Ford Ranger Splash reg cab 4-cyl, 5-speed. The exterior trim pieces at the bottom if the windows on both doors has bubbled and now there is a rust-colored stain developing on the door below. I gather that this means something metal beneath the rubber trim has rusted. I notice this on most of this generation of Rangers I see so I suppose it is common. Are replacement parts available? Any suggestions on where to get these other than a dealer and what exactly is this part called? Is the fix easy and I am likely to have to repair the door itself?

you mean that rubber strip at the base of the windows?

 

Exactly. (I'm trying to attach a picture - still trying to figure out how.)

 

A couple of guys on here have actually sanded those pieces down with fine grit paper and it brings em back to life, good luck man

 

Thanks for the idea. Anyone else have other thoughts? Is the trim piece easy to take off? There appears to be metal underneath and I'm wondering if that's what is rusting as opposed to the door itself.

 

you could sand the rubber coating off of it and paint it.........i have thought about that many times, but never got a chance yet...

 

i don't have that prob, but took the truck to a shop a month ago now neither will stay attatched.

 

I took the rubber off and polished mine, mine were aluminum though I guess ford fixed the rust issue on the newer models.

 

Well, I guess I'm in for the fix now. My son went to the dealer and ordered the parts to repair both sides. Cost: $73 each (Canadian - about $60.00 US$). I was afraid that if we didn't replace them soon the door would start to rust. I like the polished aluminum look - not sure if the replacements will be the old style or the aluminum. The latter I hope. I'll post up how it goes on the replacement.

 

that aluminum stuff is aftermarket, all of the Ranger's got rubber ones
