BED SWAP ... is it possible?

its it possible to swap out a styleside bed with flarestyle bed as they're short bed?

Are the Hole locations the same?

I have 95 Ford Ranger w/ short bed using a styleside. I found it previously it had flarestyle bed before it was swapped

Thank you for your help

Filler tube/vent !

The newer beds have ahole for the spare tire crank rod but other than that a2003 down Steppie should fit a Styleside truck.

My years were reversed, I took a 1995 Steppie bed and replaced the stock 2003 Styleside, forgot about the spare tire hole but all else worked ok.

When installing, use anti seize on all bed mounting bolts and use a good high quality lube on the tailgate pivot points, the hinges.

Why a Steppie, that's easy, they look the best... lol !

Good luck with the swap, the bed should work out.

A 98 or newer bed on a 95 should be good to go.

Your only problem will be the bed bolts, chances are you will need to cut them but try spraying them with a nut-buster for a while before attempting to remove them.

You should replace the bolt and maybe the nuts.
Either go to Ford or one of the aftermarket site and get OEM Bolts and Nutz or get new hex heads in the same length and size.

Use anti seize on the new bolts.

Scrambler82 - i agree with steppie are the best and lookin sexy for any truck!!! :P

my bed bolts are new when I had to replaced old rusted ones as i had to replace fuel pump, shackle mounts and rust proof the frames as I live in rust belt mitten state ... what an pain in a$$ ... it worth the repair job ... I shouldn't have any problems with taken them out and able to reuse them ... with little muscle effort gettin them out ... it would make me look sexier lol ...

Green99 - I want a flare side so i can use it as work truck around my home and make it easier gettin into the bed and also my current styleside bed is rusting as I am ... i don't wanna take effort into repairing the metal ... that why im replacing it and rust proof it so i can enjoy it for years too come! :)

Yes let me know as well. or repost. I just got a 98 Ranger and found a new bed for it, I am new to the Ranger family, so Im assuming a steppie is the beds with the step up to the bed and have the wide tire fenders.

sounds like those will fit and bolt on to my 98 Ranger.

I took a 1995 Steppie , flair side, stepside series bed, the one without a hole in it for the spare tire lift, and put it on a 2003 Ford ranger and all bolt holes lined up.
What that means is any bed from 93 to 2003 should swap over.

Shouldn't be hard to locate the two style beds you want, do some measuring.

The short bed standard cab has the same bed as the extended cab.

As far as I know there are two length beds for the ranger, the short bed with either style-side or the flair-side, I believe 6' long, then there is then long bed which only comes in the style-side and I think it is 7' long.

I do not believe there are any other beds for Rangers from Ford.

I ended up getting a 7ft Style-side bed, to replace my Style-side 6ft that is in very bad shape. I was told while back they should fit. bolt patterns should match as long as I dont have the extended cab (which I dont) will find out in a few weeks when I have the weekend to do it. before I do the swap. I am wanting to clear whatever rust I have and then spray some under coating so it wont rust anymore. anyone have ideas of what product to use?

Do you read what you posted... The longer bed will ln not fit on a short bed chassis, period !

If you have a long bed chassis then only a long bed will fit.

IF you have a short bed truck, do not bother getting the longer bed, waste of time.

There are only two beds for the Rangers, short bed and long bed, let's not put a measurement on them, just long and short.

The difference in length is mostly in front of the rear wheel, so if you place a long bed on a short bed truck the wheels will not line up with the wheel opening.
That's the long and short of it !

Good luck, let us know how you make out with this.

thanks for the reply. previous post you did not mention it will NOT fit.. however i have been told it should fit just fine. minor sdjustments maybe.. thats why i was trying to get more people to reply since this was 250 dollar and 10 hour total drive to get this bed in great shape. so it will be a sad day if it now comes to for sure, not fitting..

There are a lot for people on here that know far more than I about Rangers and what fits what.
Hopefully someone else will jump on and give their two cents

Sorry for any confusion on my part.

Thanks! It's a 99 Mazda B4000, 4wd 4.0L with 120k, great condition. It's fun taking parts from my old 03 and carrying them over. I'm parting out the rest.
That's what I found could be a simpler solution, to rebuild the crossmembers. My old bed was rotted through, I would have had to weld (more) plates to fix that loor thing. As long as you have the materials, tools, and ability to rebuild them, I'd say go for it! Let me know how it comes out.

Put you 98 Ranger lights back on the new bed, and 98 wiring if you switched it also.

+1 ^^^

In 2000 Ford switched Rangers to a single bulb dual filament for park, stop and turn, stop and turn shared a filament via the Multi-function switch wiring
1999 and earlier use separate bulb for turn

But as said the lens assemblies are interchangeable, so swap them and use the 1998 wiring harness

There are modules, used for trailer wiring, if swapping is not an option
Seen here:
Amazon Amazon

It combines stop and turn on to 1 wire for each side, Ford did this at the multi-function switch
