Anyone know where its located??? I mean if i blew a tire out (Knock on wood)..I wouldnt know how to get the other tire out....I dont have a key, because that is what it looks like it takes....please explain (TO lazy to look in manuel)

 

Should be with the jack in a vinyl pouch.

 

yea...its 4 rods that connect and then you put your lug wrench on the end and turn

 

U're gonna have to lookin in your book cause mine just have 3 rods that turn the spare down threw the bumper..i haven't heard of any key thing.

Find your jack and tire changing tools-assemble the 3 or 4 rods and put them in the hole above the back plate-turn with lug wrench-your tire magically lowers to the ground

 

Theres a lock that covers the hole for the tire lowering cable system. It was an option and im not sure where it was installed. (dealer/factory) My key was in the glove box. Its a typical key with 4-6 plastic extension on it. I pulled mine out long ago. If they want my crappy firestone they can have it.

 

if all else fails, a long flathead screwdriver works the same.... trust me, that tire tool is made of cheap-*** metal..... especially when its colder than hell out!

 

if you dont find the key just drill the lock out so u dont have to worry about blowing out a tire and worring about your key and if your lock was like how mine was your going to have to drill it ouy anyways

 

I'd agree. My key snapped off in the lock because it was freaking cold. Luckily I had only driven about a 1/8 mile from my house, and limped her back to the garage with the flat. If my 06 had the lock, it would have been taken out that day, because I don't feel like being stranded from something like that.

 

I ended up having to buy my key from the dealer. 15 bucks. Not really that bad. I just bought it and wanted to be done with it.

 

to clear it up...I HAVE a key mechanism thing...some say drill, others say buy one....looks like drillinf is the only way!!!! IF i do drill that key thing out will i still be able to lower the tire with my conecting rods???

 

yea...the key mechanism is just a way to keep people from being able to steal the tire...i have the same mechanism on my truck...i love it i keep it lubed though never had a problem with it

 

FWIW, mine is so hard to turn from never using it i removed it.

 

ya i got a key too.......when i get 32's the spare will be useless anyways and thats what CAA (AAA in the US) is for. come change my tire or tow me plus 5 year road side assistance with new vehicle (Mazda uses CAA anyways)

speaking of which has anyway put a bigger spare in there?

 

Thats odd, everybody keeps talking about a plastic key for the key hole cover, if its anything like the F150 you should be able to use your igniton key. Wonder why ford would change a little piece like that between models if its the same thing.

wen i bought my truck the guy i bought it from showed me the key... he had it in the glovebox. its just a long wierd lookin key. its just to take out this little lock thing that keeps u from being able to put in the rods and lower the tire. if u cant find ur key u might be in trouble...

 

funny to find this thread...i broke my spare tire key off in the locking mechanism last night, and was thinking about drilling it. now that i know im not the only one who has thought about it i feel great!! yessss. i am definitely drilling it out.

 

Has anyone had their spare tire stolen? I know my brother parked his F-150 at airports and all sorts of places and never had one stolen. It seems to me people steal rims long before they steal 1 spare tire. Maybe someone thought their spare was stolen when it was only their spare tire carrier rusted out and it fell off? The one on my S-10 fell off in the driveway.
