Blending Paint (body pannels)

Im going to be getting my truck door fixed soon and i know they are going to want to blend the paint to the other body pannels..

Has anyone had experience with this?

My buddy has a silver dodge, and got a new hood.....and it just looks like ***.....they "blended" or oversprayed on the fenders, but taped off the doors.....so the line between the doors and the fenders it looks horrible....

Im afraid to buy this fiberglass bed cover because i dont want it blended with my bed...... in my head when they "blend" all they do is over spray....well my paint is 100% fine, and dont want overspray on my truck......

Anyone have experience on having body work done like this?

Here is my Ranger after it the extended cab door was repaired and Blended in (My best friend backed his boat into my truck when I was helping him move) The bottom of the extended cab door was smashed and scraped, They pulled the dent, Block it, painted it and blended it.

that does look like it matches very well......im afraid since i have dark green paint with flake in it that it will be hard......

But if it looks like crap i wont be picking it up, simple as that...

After I was T-boned My left side bed and left front fender were blended to match the new doors and the part of the bed that was repaired. It looks real good, no complaints.

They blend it as they paint it.

Blending is very common.....All body shops do this so that you can't tell it was repaired, where as if they painted individual panels, if the paint did not match almost 100%, the area repainted would be pretty obvious, because it immediately goes from the old paint to the new paint. If its blended, it will be harder to tell it was repainted, because there is no "line" between the old and new paint, it gradually goes from one to the other.

As far as overspray goes, im pretty sure they will clearcoat the whole panel(s) that were repainted. (even though the whole panel wasn't repainted). They dont "overspray" onto other panels to make it blend, the gradually taper the paint off to nothing. If you remember if you had an art class while you were in school, its kinda like shading, where you start off shading very lightly with a pencil, and gradually make it darker as you go along so that you cant tell exactly where it got darker at.

your buddies truck was done like crap at maaco, and thats why it looks like crap, to many bad and lazy painters work there (or upper management keeps them from going good jobs)

Dont be scared of them blending, because if the insurance company is paying for it, you can demand a good job, and keep raising hell if it doesnt get done

also, they might not have to blend the door, it depends how faded your paint is, Im sure as long as its a good shop, they will do a good job painting it

mine has been repainted twice, you cant tell any blending was done but i know the first time it was.

if its a good shop you shouldn't even notice it was painted before.

Sooo my truck is suppose to be done.....well besides the dash piece, they got the wrong one......they arnt open until monday after today, and i just got off work at 9am......i told them to keep the truck until everything was done, im not paying 500$ for a half *** job....and have to waste my gas coming back....

So the guy said it WILL be done "sometime" today, which means hes going to call me right when i fall asleep and i will have to wake up and deal with this **** and not be able to fall back to sleep....

My insurance wont cover my rental after today since he told them it would be done....

The guy was an *** hat.....a jerk on the phone....so he better hope that i think the door looks good.....im already half pissed off they said 2-3 days and its been 5.....luckily i liked my rental....

So it better look good or i will tell them to redo it and call my insurance company....

I just want to pop a sleeping pill and sleep all day, im going on like 10 hours of sleep for the whole week....

Well its not too bad, metal looks good but they have dirt in the paint, orange peel in certain places, and a line on the inside of the back door where they taped it off....

But its good enough for me to sell my truck....
