I have a great opportunity to swap doors out from the same color ranger as mine. An older man lives down the road from my camp, and the other day i saw his maroon ranger sitting out by the road with a for sale sign on it. It has electric locks and windows, along with power mirrors. My truck has all of the manual components and i was considering swapping the doors. My manual ones for his power ones. There are several issues with this though. The main issue being that i would have to pull the doors apart and change the lock out from his truck to mine,if this is even possible, so the manual unlock works with the keys. Also if i were to do this would my truck being a manual just be plug and play? Or would i have to rig up a wiring harness for the components in the door. I do know this would be a pretty big job for just the luxury of electric components. Another thing i am wondering is that if i do get this far and get everything to work, will the security system in my truck, assuming it has one, function correctly with the car alarm and such. Any help is much appreciated. I think I can get a really good deal, since he is trying to get rid of it.

 

i switched mine over to power windows and i had to run my own wiring. some people have the harness in place, some don't. as far as the locks, why not just trade lock keys? i mean, you only have two locks, one on each door. but it is possible to switch out the locks as well.

 

well i could just steal the wiring harness from the truck with the power options. I don't want to just trade lock keys, because the same key will start the truck! I don't want someone else to have a key to start my truck, even if they cant use it to open the doors. I dunno what i am going to do

 

in order to use the wiring harness (assuming your truck isn't prewired for it) you would possibly be replacing the entire interior harness.
